Swiss Village...What is it and where is it?

Paul's reply:

Great question!

Although many people drive by Swiss Village on their way to Fort Adams or the 10 Mile Ocean Drive, it's difficult to see what's going on there, and not everyone knows what it is.

Swiss Village sits on 35 acres and is part of the SVF Foundation. It was built by Arthur Curtiss James in 1916, modeled on a Swiss Village from the Italian region of Switzerland.

The property was renovated in 2002 and now houses animal facilities, a procedures lab, infirmary, workshops and a conference room.

The Foundation's mission is to cryopreserve germplasm (semen, embryos and cells) from rare and endangered breeds of domestic livestock.

The Foundation welcomes inquiries from breeders and the public, but is not open to the public for tours.
